Walk This Way: How to Wear FW26’s Dark Feminine Runway Trends
Six of this season’s soft goth styles making the leap from catwalk to closet

The first signs of fall arrive almost imperceptibly; the light changes, the evening carries a chill and suddenly the leather jacket you have been eyeing all summer no longer feels wildly premature. For those of us who spend July and August yearning for soft leather and decadent knits, mentally negotiating how soon is too soon for fur, our season has finally arrived.
The runway is where the brightest minds in fashion set their imaginations loose at full scale; the real fun for the rest of us begins when whispers of those creative provocations start seeping into our wardrobes. For FW26, designers gave us plenty of inspiration.
Better still, much of it requires surprisingly few additions to what we already own. A strategic flash of sheer can change the complexion of an all-black ensemble, while extravagant texture gives familiar silhouettes fresh dimension. Patterned tights introduce print without asking us to abandon our beloved black palette; an imposing pair of sunglasses can shift the attitude of everything beneath them.
That is where couture fantasy meets practiced street style. We’re drawing inspiration from the ideas that had us spellbound as they came down the runway, translating them for mornings when there is somewhere to be, a temperature to contend with and absolutely no runway waiting at our feet.
This fall, a few calculated tweaks are all it takes. Here are six FW26 ideas we’ll be putting into practice, bringing a little of the artistry that thrilled us on the runway into the lives we dress for every day.
Nothing to Hide

The damask embroidery captured our attention, bringing an elevated quality without sacrificing any of its gothic bite. These are pieces that can amplify an existing wardrobe as standalone statements or, with clever styling, make an otherwise scandalous plunging neckline perfectly appropriate for daylight hours. We cannot wait to style them this fall, but their heirloom quality and timeless resonance promise a life well beyond a single season.
Sheer dressing is unapologetic this fall, worn in sweeping lengths with transparency pushed well beyond the tired lace insert. Look for midi-to-maxi dresses that fully commit to the effect, alongside sheer trousers and unexpected silhouettes that keep every strategic reveal exceptionally chic.
For everyday wear, Disturbia and La Femme En Noir make sheer easy to layer, while Elle Rebel and Killstar commit to lace in sweeping lengths. Forest Ink offers a playful route into the bloomer trend, while WEASEL WEAR and Unique Vintage make the case for letting transparency carry the whole look.
Designer Influence: Dolce & Gabbana leads the charge with head-to-toe sheer dressing, while ELIE SAAB carries the concept into elevated evening wear. Don’t sleep on Ashi Studio either—we’re still obsessing over those voluminous lace bloomers.
Dark Feminine Art Deco
Art Deco glamour returns with soft goth sensibility, borrowing the languid silhouettes and sumptuous surfaces of an era built for dressing up. Seek out silky camisole dresses or fluid skirts, then bring in velvet smoking jackets and burnout fabrics for evening texture. Metallic embellishment adds the final flash of Jazz Age decadence.
Smak Parlour gives the look a gothic nod with spiderweb embellishment, while Unique Vintage and Regal Rose are treasure troves for statement pieces. Build the foundation with satin staples from Aritzia or Cult & Lore, then raid Babeyond for cheap-and-cheerful accents and Anthropologie for a sparkling evening bag; when the occasion calls for serious glamour, Mac Duggal is worth the investment.
Designer Influence: Johanna Ortiz makes the strongest case with smoking jackets and sweeping silk, while Elisabetta Franchi brings the glamour into sharper focus. Saint Laurent strips the idea back to the sensual simplicity of a silk camisole dress.
Feathers + Fringe
Feathers and fringe bring movement to fall’s darker silhouettes, trailing from hems or sweeping dramatically from sleeves. Look for tactile embellishment with enough length to move with the body, turning even the simplest black piece into a spectacle.
Decadent Designs is our first stop for gothic feather collars, while Killstar and Lulus bring plumage directly into the wardrobe. Jeffrey Campbell and Sam Edelman take it to the feet; for fringe, shop Wolf & Badger favourites Angelika Jozefczyk and Decolet the Label. Then come the accessories: we’ve been drooling over Mariae Lena Headpieces’ ostrich-feather bag for a year, and yes, Betsey Johnson’s bat-wing fringe bag is kitschy, camp and still very much coming home with us.
Designer Influence: Tamara Ralph embraces full-scale feathered glamour alongside Givenchy’s fluid red-carpet fringe. David Koma takes plumage somewhere sharper, with feathered details that feel almost creature-like.
Heavy Petting
This season’s statement coat bares its claws, transforming teddy-bear-soft texture into the most carnivorous layer in the wardrobe. Look for oversized coats and dramatic stoles in inky black or icy jewel tones; bold graphic pattern brings an even sharper edge to all that softness.
Killstar is the hero here, with covetable coats and fuzzy accessories—second only to Foxblood’s crow bag, which we MUST have. For statement outerwear, shop Collectif, GUESS and Canadian staple Mackage, while Miss Circle New York, Selkie and Midnight Hour push faux fur into more theatrical territory. Finish at the extremities with Steve Madden or KOI boots and earmuffs from Minga London or Lele Sadoughi; RainSisters also offers removable faux-fur trim for a lower-commitment flirtation with the trend.
Designer Influence: Blumarine ‘stole’ our hearts with harlequin-patterned fur and extravagant volume, while Burberry supersizes the idea in rich, cool-toned colour. Gucci keeps things classic with precisely placed trim, offering a sleeker route into the trend.
Leg Work
Tights carry our favourite shorter hemlines into colder weather, but this season’s patterns and unexpected colour make a compelling case for wearing them year-round. For those of us with an overwhelmingly black wardrobe—yes, we see you—a graphic pair delivers an instant punch without disrupting the dress code. Finish with a sharply pointed shoe and notice what happens to your stride.
Videnoir’s OHMYGOTH collection brings its intricate pattern work to stockings, while Killstar, Disturbia, Unique Vintage and Midnight Hour offer plenty of reasons to retire the basic black tight. Below the ankle, Steve Madden has extended its viral pierced detailing to pumps alongside a strong pointed-toe lineup; Foxblood and Jeffrey Campbell are equally fertile ground for shoes with a sharper disposition.
Designer Influence: Mark Gong’s models stalk the runway in pointed heels with the confidence of women who expect the hallway to clear. Viviano makes patterned tights the outfit’s main character, while Mugler plays with colour and hosiery as part of the look itself.

The finishing touches are doing some heavy lifting this fall, contrasting familiar sophistication against a slightly more suspicious disposition. Leather opera gloves are a gamble worth taking, standout shades keep intentions obscured and a structured doctor bag leaves bystanders wondering exactly what you’ve got in there. Shop these pieces with character in mind, considering each addition part of the look’s larger narrative—the right accomplices can rewrite the entire plot.
Esoterica remains our first stop for elegant oddity bags, while Time Resistance offers investment-worthy doctor bags and Fable England captures the classic silhouette at a friendlier price. For suspicious eyewear, investigate Witchwood, Hellflower, Foxblood, Killstar and Disturbia; finish the ensemble with gloves from Blackwood Castle, La Femme En Noir or RainSisters.
Designer Influence: Khaite has the gloves-and-shades combination on lock, while Gucci pairs a ladylike bag with gloves that suggest impeccable manners are entirely optional. Viviano gives us a take on The Bride in dramatic black gloves, and Christian Siriano delivers Romantic Goth Barbie. Mugler completes the cast with imposing shades and the season’s gold-standard doctor-bag silhouette.
Half the fun of following the collections is realizing you may already own the beginnings of the look you’re admiring. That dress currently relegated to the back of your closet has been waiting for the right pair of gloves and tights to make its comeback.
